8月份中印汽车市场冰火两重天 A tale of two carmaking markets

       The Chinese and Indian car markets experienced contrasting fortunes in August, with the former posting robust sales while the latter was hit by its first drop for nearly a year, write James Crabtree and Patti Waldmeir.

       Indian car sales fell 19 per cent to 118,142 compared with the same month in 2011 as slowing growth, high interest rates and a factory shutdown hit trading conditions in Asias third-largest economy.
       经济增长放缓、利率高企和工厂倒闭对印度的汽车交易形势造成冲击,导致亚洲第三大经济体8月份的汽车销量降至118142辆,同比降幅为19%。
       Sales of two-wheeled vehicles fell 8.5 per cent, the first fall in three years, according to figures released by the Society of Indian Auto Manufacturers, an industry body. Indias car industry has struggled recently following years of strong growth, forcing manufacturers to shut factories and trim output targets in the face of slowing customer demand.
       印度汽车制造商协会(Society of Indian Auto Manufacturers)发布的数据显示,两轮机动车的销量下降8.5%,为三年来的首次下降。在经历数年的强劲增长之后,印度汽车业最近处境艰难,汽车制造商不得不关闭工厂、下调产量目标,以应对汽车消费需求放缓。
       Maruti Suzuki, Indias largest carmaker by sales, resumed production at its Manesar car factory close to New Delhi in mid-August following rioting that led to a month-long shutdown. Marutis output halved in August against the same month last year, to 36,459, although overall national output for all carmakers would have fallen even had Maruti produced at usual levels, said Siam.

       The economic downturn is really hitting the industry, said Sugato Sen, senior director at Siam. Interest rates are still high and there is the threat of fuel price rises to come.

       Indias car sales had been projected to grow at least 11 per cent this year, but Mr Sen said weak sales meant his body would probably revise this down next month. The final numbers will not be this high, given that car sales have grown only by 1 per cent so far this year.
       根据此前的预期,今年印度汽车销量将至少增长11%,但Sugato Sen表示,疲弱的销售形势意味着,印度汽车制造商协会很可能会于下月调低这一预期。最终的数字肯定不会这么高,因为今年迄今汽车销量仅仅增长了1%。
       Meanwhile, passenger vehicle sales in China rose 11 per cent in August year on year, in spite of the mainland economic slowdown, which has sparked a price war and seen inventories at dealerships rise. Passenger vehicle sales for the first eight months were up 8 per cent year on year to nearly 10m, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said yesterday.
       另一方面,8月份中国乘用车销量同比增长了11%,尽管中国经济放缓引发价格战并导致汽车经销商库存增加。中国汽车工业协会(China Association of Automobile Manufacturers)近日指出,今年头八个月中国乘用车销量接近1000万辆,同比增长8%。
       We have seen quite a strong recovery in the market in the last few months, said Ivo Naumann of AlixPartners consultancy in Shanghai, who expects 8-12 per cent growth this year. But most foreign carmakers continued to take market share away from Chinese carmakers, which are suffering from excess capacity.
       咨询公司艾睿铂(AlixPartners)驻上海的罗曼(Ivo Naumann)表示:最近几个月,中国汽车市场出现强势复苏。罗曼预计,今年中国汽车销量将增长8%到12%。不过,多数外国汽车制造商仍在从中国汽车制造商手里抢走市场份额,而后者正面临产能过剩问题。
       Chinas car market has slowed dramatically since the end of tax incentives introduced under Beijings 2008 stimulus package.
